Greetings,

Lately a lot of our conversations have focused on two related questions:

  1. How does AI affect privacy?

  2. How can companies (and countries) keep their data sovereign while using AI?

There are a lot of ways to think about AI and privacy, but, sadly, none of them are positive.

Frontier AI companies are seeing into the lives of BILLIONS of people, companies, and countries at a deeper level and greater scale than any entity in history.  And they're pretty careless with the safety and security of their systems, which can be seen in the numerous articles about contractors reviewing private chats, AI hacking other companies, and agent vulnerabilities.

Looked at another way, I wrote recently about how AI is eroding privacy protections in the US as companies from Meta to Apple push new always-recording devices. These features, as they become more ubiquitious, erode the legal standard of what is a reasonable expectation of privacy.

On the sovereignty front, we've recently met with high-level government officials from Europe and Asia and sovereignty was top of mind for them.  America's frictions with historical allies is driving new demand for data controls, which is at odds with the push to adopt AI.  Our largest customers are also reporting a surge in demand for data sovereignty and control functionality.

Software can leverage application-layer encryption to meet these needs.  Encryption enables sovereign controls, limits what AI can see (or surreptitiously peek at), and fixes the leaky bucket that is nearly every AI pipeline.

If you aren't encrypting your AI vectors or your customers' sensitive information, you're going to have to convince your customer to do without. And that could drive them elsewhere.

IronCore has been building solutions to do this at scale for years.  Talk to us about how you can give your customers the meaningful assurances they want.

Best wishes,

..Patrick

PS - we have some new animated explainers up on our AI encryption and VectorLens pages. We also have an updated AI Shadow Data white paper with even more shadow data inside.

Announcing VectorLens: See the PII Hiding in Your Vector Embeddings

A Flashlight for the Darkest Corner of Your AI Stack

AI quietly copies your sensitive data into vector embeddings that no PII scanner can read. VectorLens is a new local CLI tool that scans embeddings to find PII hiding in your AI pipelines.
